Hussein Barghouti was born in the village of Kobar (near Ramallah) in 1954.
Dr. Barghouti got his high school diploma from Amir Hassan School in Birzeit and continued his university education in Budapest
where he studied Hungarian Language and economics. He worked as an academic advisor in Birzeit University from
1983-1985.
He then obtained his PH.D in comparative literature from the University of Washington in the US. Since 1992 he has been
teaching in Palestinian universities.
Throughout this period he has been writing screenplays and lyrics for various musical groups. He was also one of the
founders of the Palestinian House of Poetry in Ramallah.
Dr. Barghouti passed away on May 1st, 2002.
